HOW A PHOTO WHICH DISSAPPEARED 40 YEARS AGO LED TO THE ERECTION OF A WOMAN’S MONUMENT - HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY!!!

2010 was the best year ever as is the year my father (a few months before he died at age 86) gave me a photo of me and my late mother who had died in 1971. The memory of my mother’s funeral a few months after the photo was taken, when I was 6 years, remains vivid 41 years after she passed on. As part of honoring women on women’s day, we erected a monument at the grave of my mother - in a 450 hectare land which was forcefully taken away from our family by the apartheid state in 1971. It is my family’s desire that the government, which has so far failed to return the land back to the rightful owners, can do the honorable thing and returns the land which our family has lived, and farmed for over 150 years. This blog is dedicated to the memory of my mother and to all mothers throughout the world.
